Mobility car hire is an alternative to buying your vehicle outright. If you qualify for the government Motability scheme, then there are a number of ways in which hiring or leasing could work for you. Read on to see how you could drive away in a new, or nearly new adapted car.
If you are eligible for the Motability scheme you could have access to a wide range of vehicles that could suit your needs. More importantly, because the vehicles are hired, or leased, you can change your vehicle after a set period of time for another mobility car that better suits you developing needs. For example, if you now need to use a wheelchair full time and can no longer drive, you may want to look at wheelchair accessible vehicles when you lease period is up. Alternatively, it may just be that your family grows and the size of adapted vehicle you need changes over time.
The vehicle itself is only part of the package. If you are entitled to lease a vehicle through Motability, then you also get service, maintenance and insurance as part of the package. This is as well as your annual vehicle tax, replacement tyres and windscreen cover. It should be noted that there is some restriction involved in leasing, aside from eligibility. Cars have a mileage allowance of 60,000 miles over three years and WAVs have an allowance of 100,000 miles. You are also only allowed certain people to drive the vehicle, as well as yourself, and these must be named at the point that the hire is agreed.
