PIP Road Tax Exemption: How to get a 50% reduction on your vehicle tax
If you have a disability you could get a 50% or 100% reduction on your vehicle tax, provided you meet certain requirements.

Road Tax Exemption
If you have a disability, own or are considering buying a wheelchair accessible vehicle, you could get a 50% or 100% reduction on your vehicle tax provided you meet certain requirements.
If you receive any of the following benefits, you won’t have to pay vehicle tax:
- High rate mobility component of Disability Living Allowance
- Enhanced rate mobility component of Personal Independence Payment
- Enhanced rate mobility component of Adult Disability Payment
- High rate mobility component of Child Disability Payment
- War Pensioners Mobility Supplement
- Armed Forces Independence Payment
Please note that you must apply to be registered as exempt from vehicle tax, you cannot simply stop paying it. Further details on how to apply are available on the GOV.UK website.
Additionally, if you receive one of these benefits, you may be eligible for a 50% reduction on your vehicle tax:
- Standard rate mobility component of Personal Independence Payment
- Standard rate mobility component of Adult Disability Payment

Some vehicles are exempt from Tax

- Zero-emission vehicles, including most electric and hydrogen-powered models (excluding hybrids)
